Kojo Boakye is Meta’s Vice President of Public Policy for Africa, Middle East and Türkiye. Kojo is an experienced ICT for Development practitioner, with 20 years’ experience working with governments, fixed-line and mobile operators, development partners, online service providers, content creators, and civil society organisations. Before joining Meta more than 8 years ago, Kojo was the Deputy Executive Director of the Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI), and the Head Research and Consultancy at the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) prior to that.
In addition to an MSc in Development Studies, Kojo holds a BA in African History and Development Studies from SOAS, University of London. The history and socio-economic development of Africa, the Middle East and Türkiye continue to be his areas of personal and professional interest, guiding his work. In recent years, his work has focused on broadband affordability and infrastructure development; the use of mobile infrastructure and devices for the delivery of social services; strategic planning for ICT regulators; tech regulation, privacy, and competition; and the evolution of the Metaverse and Artificial Intelligence.
In 2023, Kojo was listed among the UK’s top 100 most influential black people, demonstrating the “ability to alter events and change lives positively within the context of black communities in the UK or elsewhere, as demonstrated over a reasonable period of time”. He continues to be passionate about creating opportunities for youth across Africa, the Middle East and Türkiye, sitting on the boards of Junior Achievement Africa and the Global Digital Inclusion Partnership (GDIP).
